Honey Competition

Rules:
  1. All beekeepers taking part in the congress have the right to join the contest except the jury members and commercial brands.
  2. Beekeepers who want to send their honey by cargo should fill the entry form that they can find in congress web site and attach the form to the cargo.
  3. Entry form should be filled completely in Turkish or English
  4. All honey samples should be in three separate and colorless Jars.
  5. Each jar should contain honey between 460 and 500 grams.
  6. Jars should be safe and have easily removable lids. Jars shouldn’t have any labels, marking, etc.
  7. One of the jars has to be labeled and mention the origin, region and the name of the Beekeeper. Remaining two jars has to be without any label
  8. All honey samples should have been produced in 2018.
  9. Entries for participants end on October 1, 2018 at 17.00.
  10. Evaluation of competition ends on October 12, 2018 at 17.00.
  11. Honey samples of the competition will be exhibited in the congress center during the congress days.
  12. Winners will be announced during the opening ceremony competition commission and will be awarded in Closing Ceremony.
  13. Winners will be announced in international web sites.
Evaluation of honey samples:
  1. Honey samples will be evaluated in accordance with Codex Standard for Honey which has been published in 2011 as 2001/110/EC
  2. The honey samples will primarily be evaluated sensorial / visually.
  3. Jars should be at participants’ will. Jar conditions are part of the evaluation. Honey in poor and old Jars will not be received for consideration.
  4. Criteria for sensorial/visual analysis:
    • Appearance
    • Flavor-aroma
    • Texture and viscosity
    • Cleanness of the package
    • Color
    • Odor
  5. After the pollen analyse, suitable samples according to the pollen content will be evaluated in the Monofloral category.
  6. Honey samples getting the sensorial/visual analysis base will be analyzed in Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Food Analysis Laboratory and will be evaluated according to the chemical analysis test results.
  7. Chemical analysis that honey samples will be subjected to:
    • Sugar profile
    • Proline
    • Diastase
    • Moisture
    • pH and free acidity
    • Conductivity
    • Antibiotic analysis
  8. According to analysis results, competition commission will subject the participants to a re-evaluation and winner will be decided.
  9. To be able to evaluate unbiased, samples will be given code numbers by the congress secretariat. This code will be also written on the participation form of the participant. Samples will be sent to analyse and to jury members wihout name.
  10. The classes of the competition:
Only Extracted Honeys will be able to join the competition.
A- Monofloral Honey
B- Polifloral Honey
C- Honeydew Honey (Pine, Oak, Fir, Cedar etc.)

Delivery:
Participants should send honey samples in three separate and colorless jars with the entry form by prepaid Cargo until October 1, 2018 at 17.00.
